Abstract
This study focuses on the design and evaluation of silver-containing wound dressings. A novel wound dressing material was prepared by electrospinning AgNO3/poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) aqueous solution into nonwoven sheets and then treating the sheets by heat. Through SEM and TEM analyses, we observed that the silver nanoparticles exists in the near surface of the electrospun nanofibers. It was presumably thought that the silver nanoparticles were formed by thermo reduction of silver ions from AgNO3. The AgNO3/PVA electrospun nanofiber sheets have superior liquid absorbing capacity and excellent antimicrobial ability. Also, the sheets showed quick and continuous release of silver in deionized water for 48 hr due to the high surface area to volume ratio of the electrospun nanofiber webs.
